| Shane burns some rubber |
31 October 2008 – Singer Shane Filan indulged another passion on Wednesday when he performed rally car stunts on a beach. The multi-millionaire singer and property developer, who has his own extensive top-of-the-range car collection, wasted no time sending sand flying at Strandhill, Co. Sligo. He got behind the wheel of the Citroen C2 belonging to Rally champion Shaun Gallagher to mark the official launch of Ireland’s biggest sporting event next year.
| “It was amazing, great craic. It was a great rush. I’m glad I did it but I was glad he was beside me because I could have toppled it over”, said a delighted Shane afterwards. He added that although Westlife is on a break, he had no plans for a career change. “We are definitely taking a break, but I think I’ll stick with the group. I don’t know about driving rally cars, but it was great fun” he said. |
| Rally Ireland 2009 will take place from 29 January to 1 February across seven counties in the North West including Sligo, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Cavan, Roscommon, Tyrone and Donegal. |

| 23 October 2008 - Shane Filan showed off his beautiful new baby Patrick for the first time today exclusively in the Irish Daily Mirror. The 29 year old shunned a series of big money magazine offers to stick with his favourite newspaper and posed with stunning wife Gillian, daughter Nicole and Patrick athis christening. Until today Shane has kept the baby under wraps since he was born on 15 September.

| Gillian also 29 was back to her sexy best at the christening in Sligo and Shane looked hot in a designer suit and joined friends and family for the christening. "Gillian looked great and little Patrick was fantastic throughout the service. He took it all in his stride". "I feel like the luckiest man alive to have an adorable son and daughter. Gillian and I have to keep pinching ourselves". |
| Shane and his bandmates have taken a year off to concentrate on their families after a decade at the top. And the singer, who confessed he has never been busier, added: "I thought I would be twiddling my thumbs but think it is pretty hectic. "Having two kids is incredible but a lot of work. It's great that I can be at home more to help Gillian out". One guest said "Gillian looked like a million dollars. She has really got her figure back and was absolutely glowing. Shane couldn't stop smiling and you can tell just to look at them that they are happier than ever. |

| Shane to drive rally car |
23 October 08 - Shane Filan will next week drive a rally car around Sligo to mark the return of Rally Ireland and the World Rally Championship to these shores in January 2009. The local Rally Ireland committee will launch the 2009 WRC event on Wednesday of next week (October 29) with a parade of rally cars through the streets of Sligo, headed by Shane Filan. Shane, who is a self-confessed car lover, will be piloting Donegal driver Shaun Gallagher’s Citroen C2.

| Celebrity Chef Dylan gives Nicky a generous helping of abuse |
09 October 2008 – Although it seems the most unlikely scenario in Irish showbiz, it appears the knives were out between celebrity chef Dylan McGrath and Westlife star Nicky Byrne recently. The diary can reveal that the pair became embroiled in a “bizarre” verbal exchange after an encounter in the VIP area of Krystle nightclub which has set tongues wagging. A well placed source placed the blame for the exchange firmly at the feet of the feisty Mint restaurateur, saying the Michelin-starred chef may have stirred things up with the chart-topping singer.
| Nicky was out celebrating his fifth wedding anniversary with wife Georgina, alongside his famous-in-laws Bertie Ahern and ex-wife Miriam, when the incident occurred in the Harcourt Street hot spot. “Nicky and Georgina had been having a really lovely evening before this happened. A big gang of them went to Thornton’s restaurant beforehand and had a gorgeous meal before deciding to continue the party in Krystle. They had a table reserved in the corner of the club and Nicky was just sitting there and having a few quiet drinks with pals when Dylan walked over to him. “He said something like “I know your face, I recognise you from the telly – you’re famous or something, aren’t you?” but was being quite aggressive. Nicky initially ignored him but Dylan wouldn’t let it go. Eventually one of Nicky’s friends stood up and told them to just leave them alone, that they were just enjoying a night out. At the stage, things got a little physical and a punch was thrown”.

The club’s security staff were quick to react to the situation and managed to calm things down between the two parties. Yet the whole encounter left a bad taste in Nicky’s mouth and he eventually decided to just call it a night and leave. Afterwards he private told pals that the incident had put a dampener on what should have been a night to remember for him and his wife. “he said what made the whole thing so upsetting was that it was a really special night for him and Georgina, which they were enjoying with their families when the incident happened”. “In the end he decided the best thing was just to go home as he wasn’t sure if Dylan would just start up again or not but he was really shaken by what happened”. He has never got that kind of treatment before from someone he doesn’t even know.
When contacted about the incident, the celebrity chef played down what happened. He told the Diary how he “couldn’t say anything about it” before adding how he had “no problem” with the boyband member.
