NICKY TURNS 30 11 October 2008 – All the stars were out last night for the glittering 30th birthday celebrations for Westlife’s Nicky Byrne. Many big celebrity pals of Nicky arrived at the lavish event at The Grand Hotel in Malahide Dublin, as well as his wife Georgina who looked stunning in a black and diamante below-the-knee dress. She completed the look with Christian Louboutin heels. The main man himself looked dashing in a black tux and blue diamond earrings. All of the Westlife lads were among the 300 hundred guests who showed up for popular Nicky’s big night including Kian Egan with beautiful fiancée Jodi Albert, who’s getting started with rehearsals for Louis Walsh’s new girl band. Shane Filan was there with wife Gillian, who was wearing a short blue dress and looked noticeably trim after only just giving birth to their second child last month. And Mark Feehily and his gorgeous partner Kevin McDaid were there. They were both looking very bronzed after just jetting in to Dublin from a relaxing holiday in Australia. Nicky’s sister-in-law Cecelia Ahern turned up after her appearance on The Late Late Show. She joined her boyfriend Dave Keoghan along with her dad, former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, and mum Miriam. Twins Rocco and Jay were close-by as they were looked after in a penthouse suite upstairs in the hotel where the couple who live in Malahide were staying. Boyzone’s Ronan Keating arrived looking dapper in a x and trilby hat, with wife Yvonne who was wearing an amazing monochrome dress with five-inch peep-toe Louboutin heels. The pair posed for photographs with fans in the bar downstairs while quaffing a bottle of Moet champagne before the big event with snooker player Ken Doherty as well as Lillie’s nightclub owner Dave Egan. Newcastle football player Shay Given was also there in good spirits with his wife Jan, who turned heads with her black shiny leggings and black tutu-style dress. One close pal of Nicky’s told the Herald “Nicky’s a great guy. Everyone loves him. Most people here have known him since his childhood days and have only good things to say”. Nicky and Georgina decided to keep the party local and have looked after all of their friends from years ago, not just their celeb mates. “It says a lot about the two of them, having stayed so down-to-earth after all these years of success, they’re the nicest couple you could ever meet” He added. Westlife get together for Nicky’s 30th Birthday When Westife singer Nicky Byrne became the first of pop’s phenomenal four to turn 30, celebrations at the Grand Hotel Malahide fizzed with champagne and surprises that wife Georgina only just managed to conceal from the birthday boy she’s loved since they were 15. The couple’s fabulous wedding in France five years ago was always going to be a hard act to follow, but Georgina, daughter of former taoiseach Bertie Ahern, pushed the bateau out in lively and lavish Irish style for a fun bash featuring 250 guests. Of course fellow Westlifers – Shane, Kian and Mark – were there. In fact the night was the first time the lads had reconvened since June, when they begun their elective year away from the limelight after marking their tenth anniversary. And they were all clearly excited to meet up. “It’s great to see the band again” enthused Nicky. “For the past ten years, we’ve spent so much time as a foursome that we know each other better than some siblings. “Nicky’s ageing well considering!” joked Mark. “We’ll give him a bit of stick for being 30 but later, you might catch us in a corner getting all emotional!”. Greeting the guests at the ballroom entrance was a “memory lane” museum, with treasures ranging from Nicky’s stage outfit to his first communion suit on display. Huge screens showed Westlife’s highlights interspersed with stills of Nicky’s life, from babyhood to fatherhood with the birth of 17 month old twin sons Rocco and Jay. Among the friends and family members on hand were Westlife mentor Ronan Keating, Repubic of Ireland goalkeeper Shay Given and former world snooker champion Ken Doherty. And at 5am, time was finally called on the revels that Nicky would relive for the next few days. “We’ve been like a newly-married couple going over their wedding” he said. “Georgina wanted to spoil me and that’s what it felt like from start to finish.
