Westlife’s star’s French wedding

09 August 2003: Westlife’s singer Nicky Byrne celebrated his marriage to the daughter of Irish Prime Minister Bertie Ahern at a lavish ceremony in France on Saturday.

Byrne and Georgina Ahern officially married at a simple service at Wicklow registry office near Dublin on Tuesday.

On Saturday they had a church wedding in France, followed by a reception at the exclusive Chatueau D’Esclimont near Paris. It is reported that the couple struck a $1m (£622,000) deal with celebrity magazine Hello! to cover the ceremony.

It was to be a far grander affair that the registry office wedding – where Byrne turned up in jeans and a baseball cap.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the couple married in the 11th Century church of St Pierre and St Paul in Gallardon, six miles for the Chateau. The 16th Century Chateau d’Esclmont, an hour from Paris between Versailles and the Cathedral of Chartres, is said to be one of France’s most exclusive getaways.

Singer Ronan Keating and Nadine Coyle of Girls Aloud, are reportedly among the artists who entertained guests.

There was an Irish pub and all the food was flown in from Ireland, according to the paper.
